CONCEPT
Architectural design for a six-bedroom courtyard home of 3500 SFT in Wakad, a suburb of Pune, India. Drawing from the vernacular architecture style of tropical homes, this modern courtyard home is designed in the middle of a dense urban area in Pune city for an intergenerational family of nine users.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Our scope of work was limited to architectural design and spatial planning, where we proposed a compact, 12’ grid, ground level, 3500 SFT home with structural steel, fly ash bricks and a shingle roof.
Central Courtyard as Connector: The central courtyard with automated louvers brings in light and air connecting the six private bedrooms, thus becoming a space of everyday movement and familiarity. Effectively, the courtyard becomes a transitionary space bringing together private and public spaces.
