House on Arches 

Concept
Set against the Sahyadris near the Mulshi River, “House on Arches” is a 13,000 sq.ft. farmhouse villa designed as a quiet dialogue between architecture and landscape.
Every curve and contour of the 10-acre site shapes how the home breathes, opening itself to streams, hills, and monsoon skies.

Design Philosophy

Raised gently on stilts to respect the terrain and its waters, the structure rests lightly within its environment. The architecture and landscape of this farmhouse villa draw inspiration from the seamless weave of the popular Indian textile, the “Sari”. This metaphor effectively bridges the stilt (ground) and first-floor levels, treating the entire structure as one flowing piece of fabric gently settled within the 10-acre natural canvas.

Drawing inspiration from the weave of an Indian sari, the architecture ties together built and natural elements into one continuous fabric of life. As an IGBC Platinum-rated home and landscape, it stands as both shelter and statement which strives for a living balance between sustainability, family, and nature.

This intergenerational weekend family home has been awarded IGBC Platinum rating for both Green Homes and Green Landscape, underscoring a deep commitment to environmental sustainability.

 

Design Logic

  Raised on stilts, the home adapts to seasonal rains and potential flooding, staying harmonious with the landscape while preserving natural drainage.

• Framing Vistas:
  Arched openings on the first floor frame sweeping views, drawing the landscape into the living spaces and fostering a timeless dialogue between architecture and nature.
