Modern Courtyard Home

Architectural design for a six-bedrooms courtyard home of 3500 SFT in Wakad suburb of Pune, India.

DESIGN FRAMEWORK

Drawing from the vernacular architecture style of tropical homes, this modern courtyard home is designed in the middle of a dense urban area in Pune city for an intergenerational family of nine users.

Our scope of work was limited to architectural design and spatial planning, where we proposed a compact, 12’ grid, ground level, 3500 SFT home with structural steel, fly ash bricks and a shingle roof.

The central courtyard with automated louvers brings in light and air connecting the six private bedrooms, thus becoming a space of everyday movement and familiarity. Effectively, the courtyard becomes a transitionary space bringing together private and public spaces.
